National History
On June 28, 1920, seventeen men came together to form an eternal brotherhood of Sigma Tau Gamma at what is now known as the University of Central Missouri. The fraternity was born out of the desires of seventeen men in the belief that all men are social creatures and that friendships of college men are lasting ones. The founders of our fraternity established six key principles that are sacred to our fraternity: learning, integrity, excellence, leadership, citizenship, and brotherhood. Each member of Sigma Tau Gamma is expected to uphold these six values at the highest possible level in every aspect of his life. The fraternity has had over 170 chapters, as well as over 74,000 initiates since 1920. Our national philanthropy is the Special Olympics. Sigma Tau Gamma headquarters are located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
